Why AI Overviews are worth tracking separately
Ranking first in the blue links no longer means being seen first. When an AI Overview appears, it takes the top of the page and answers the question outright, so the click that used to go to your page may never happen. What you want instead is to be one of the sources the overview is built from.
An AI Overview is the answer Google writes at the top of its results page, above the normal blue links. It is assembled from a handful of pages Google picks, and those pages get a link in the source panel. Being one of them is the difference between being read and being scrolled past.
This tool answers one question exactly: for a given search, in a given country, is your domain in that source panel? That is a factual check, not an estimate. We run the search, read the overview Google returns, and compare the source links against your domain.
You also get the full source list. That is usually the more useful half, because it tells you which pages Google currently treats as the authorities on your topic, and those are the pages you are competing with.
Coverage also varies enormously by country. The same query can produce an overview in one market and nothing in another, with a different set of sources in each. Checking one market tells you very little about the rest, which is why this tool asks you which one you mean.

Frequently asked questions.
What you need to know about tracking your rankings on Google AI Overviews.
What is an AI Overviews tracker?
It is a tool that checks whether Google's AI Overview cites your website for a given search. Instead of measuring your position in the ordinary results, it looks at the source panel attached to the AI-written answer at the top of the page and tells you if your domain is in it.
Why did no AI Overview appear for my search?
Google does not generate one for every query. Across a large sample we measure an overview on roughly 86 percent of searches, so about one in seven returns nothing. It is more common on very specific, very new, or purely navigational queries. If none appears, there is no source panel to be cited in yet.
Is being cited the same as being mentioned?
No, and the difference matters. Being cited means Google linked to your page as a source. Being mentioned means your brand name appears in the text of the answer. You can have either without the other. This tool reports both, and treats the citation as the primary result because it is an exact check rather than an interpretation.
Why do results change between countries?
Google localises AI Overviews heavily. The same query can produce an overview in one market and none in another, and the sources typically differ even when both show one. That is why the country is a required input here rather than an assumed default, and why we confirm which market Google actually served.
How current is the result?
Every check runs a live search at the moment you press the button. Results for an identical search, domain and country are reused for 24 hours, so re-running the same check immediately returns the same answer rather than billing a second search.
Can I track this automatically over time?
Not with this free tool, which is built for one-off checks. Geoptie's paid plans run your prompts every day across seven AI engines, including both Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and keep the history so you can see when a citation appeared or disappeared.
